Day 8, Part 2 (buddha with a graduation hat)

On our way up to Moab, we discovered (or rather drove through) a small town called Mexican Hat. Interesting town, more interesting namesake. We got gas blasting the John Butler Trio (which I totally danced to the entire time the gas was flowing), and then drove out to actually find the reason for Mexican Hat’s namesake.

Find it we did, and as you can see above, I definitely decided to climb it. (Click on the photo for a bigger picture.) My moccasins got really dirty, but when I got up there and looked across the land, I had an immense feeling of accomplishment. I actually sort of regretted the fact that I let Kayla have the camera as I climbed, but she wouldn’t have gotten the above shot had she not had it. In any case, it was an amazing view.
