Day 8, Part 3: (Flash floods)
We decided, on random instance, to drive through the Valley of the Gods. I got some really awesome shots, but what was most intimidating about the 17 mile loop through barren desert and towering figures was the impending storm. To the west, a huge storm was brewing, and we could see the rain approaching in one huge sheet. Desperate not to be caught in a flash flood, we drove at a decent speed, and as soon as we got out of the loop, the sky let forth all of its power. Further down the highway, a 100ft stretch was completely submerged, and it was a horror to drive through. Bessie came out dirty, but she made it through, and looking back on it, it’s certainly a story to tell. If you’ve never been through the Valley of the Gods, you need to. It was enlightening to see all these skyscrapers of stone reaching into the clouds.
Oh, and by the way, the picture you see above is nothing compared to the water we saw elsewhere.
